- Gven that 3.5" drives can be picked up for less than 100UKP affordability
- isn't perhaps much of an issue (so long as the A1200+ or whatever it's
- called actually takes 3.5" HDs (that the user can get at without risking
- warranty problems).
-
- Surely though the point of the ZIP is that as you need more storage space
- you buy more cartridges - a much cheaper option than buying any size of
- hd. The spectre then arises of replacing the floppy swopping on floppy-
- only machines with ZIP swopping every time the OS wants Workbench....
-
- In my mind a better option may be to move away from the all-in-one
- A1200 design to a seperate case and keyboard. Supply a 3.5" HD as
- standard (that can be accessed and upgraded by the user without the
- risk of invalidating the warranty (this is essential no matter what case
- style is used), and a hd floppy drive. Then provide drive bays as per
- clones. CD/ZIP could then be supplied as standard by AT or dealers or
- fitted by the end-user as required. If an all-in-one case is still
- used, provide a SCSI interface as standard, plus a PCMCIA port, and
- a second serial port.
